Galaxies – One Gigayear at a Time

Julian Onions

On the 8th July saw a return visit by Julian Onions of Nottingham University giving us a talk on Galaxies - One Gigayear at a time.

This talk was very well received and provoked many questions.  He explained what galaxies are, how they are classified, how they are formed, what we understand about their lives, and showed many pictures illustrating his talk.

He was very interested in our telescope and the above shows him viewing Mars.  He was very impressed by the telescope and was very complimentary about the observatory.  He was able to view the night sky through the Meade and commented on the quality of the equipment we owned.
